Research Support. List selected ongoing or completed (during the last three years) research projects (federal and non-federal support
Current Projects:
Consultant/Chair of the Behavioral Working Group of the MACS, supported by consulting agreements with the four MACS field sites and CAMACS. Involves coordinating and initiating new behavioral research projects within the MACS and across the MACS and WIHS cohort studies. No funding or scientific overlap with the present proposal.
Pending Projects:
NIDA-pending funding decision: Long-term health effects of methamphetamine use in the MACS (Ronald Stall, PI). Would be 3 year look-back/longitudinal study of the effects of methamphetamine (and other stimulants) on physical and mental health outcomes among the men in the MACS. No scientific or budgetary overlap, but there would be considerable synergy if both projects collected new behavioral outcome predictor data at about the same time.
Completed Projects:
Pilot Demonstration Project on HCV Education of Substance Abuse Counselors  (2004) This was a SAMSHA-funded 4-year Treatment Optimization Project, within which DGO was PI for the one-year pilot demonstration education project. Included development of needs assessment with Chicago-area SA treatment facilities and staffs; development of survey instrument to gauge levels of knowledge, experience and attitudes towards Hepatitis diagnosis and treatment among SA counselors, and pre-/post-evaluation of changes in these measures due to participation in an intense 1-day educational program.
